Konnie Lukes, Worcester’s Mayor, Is Originally Albanian!
On January 2008, Konstantina Lukes formally took the reins as the new mayor of Worcester, becoming the second woman in the city’s history to hold such title. Konnie Lukes will serve as mayor for the remainder of the term, succeeding former mayor Timothy Murray who now serves as lieutenant governor of Massachusetts.
Konnie Lukes is of Albanian heritage. She was raised in Connecticut by her parents who were Albanian immigrants. Ms. Lukes first ran for School Committee in the 1980s. The veteran at-large city councilor has served 17 years on the City Council. Ms. Lukes occupation is a lawyer and she currently runs a law office from her home in Worcester, where she lives with her husband James and her son Peter. Konnie Lukes has always had strong opinions on issues important to her and she’s known for her outspoken style. She likes to take the time to listen to people’s concerns and identify with them. On behalf of the Albanian community of Worcester, we wish Ms. Lukes the best in her new job as mayor of our city!

Visit and support the beautiful Saint Mary's Albanian Church located at 535 Salisbury St., Worcester, MA 01609. The church holds its mass every Sunday morning. In addition, the church helps bring our community together by hosting other activities and events, including the Albanian Festival that takes place every two years.
